The Melroy brings you The Joel Frahm Trio, in collaboration with Eli Uttal-Veroff, one of OSJ’s co-founders.
If you’re seasoned or new to the jazz community, no fret, you will get what you paid for and more with this trio! We thank them for making a stop in Lexington, KY!
About the event:
It’s easy to see how Joel Frahm carved out an illustrious career in the New York City and then Nashville. When you read reviews of his albums and performances you get a clear picture of a saxophonist carrying the tradition forward with his powerful sound: “…the influences of John Coltrane’s big-bodied sound”, “...has a brawny tenor sax sound”, “Frahm follows in the footsteps of Sonny Rollings, Joe Henderson, and Joe Lovano”. In other words, he is a jazz musician’s jazz musician who employs equal parts creativity, virtuosic technique, and a keen sense of emotion in his playing.
You also hear repeatedly about the fluency, energy and spontaneity of his new trio with bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Ernesto Cervini. Through their eloquence and individual power, the group makes the complexity of playing without a pianist a feature, not a bug. In this performance you’ll hear original tunes that are fresh but rooted in a warm familiarity from the jazz tradition.
